I

It finds them

Unsubscribe scans your mailbox and lists every sender with an unsubscribe link. You can see how many emails they sent, to which inboxes, and when the last one came. Sort by Emails and start at the top.

II

You leave with one click

The Unsubscribe button opens the sender's unsubscribe page, or drafts the unsubscribe email from the inbox that received the list. All you need to do is click. The row turns grey and stays remembered.

III

The leftovers go to the Trash

Tick Delete in the same popup and every email from that list moves to Mail's Trash, hundreds at a time, with a progress bar and a log. Nothing is deleted for good.

What it does

Every mailing list, in one table

Senders are grouped by domain; a sender with several lists opens into one row per list. Columns show the usual sender address, the inbox it reaches, the last email and how many it sent, coloured by how many. Search and sort like any Mac table.

Unsubscribe with a click

Lists that unsubscribe through a web page open directly in your browser. Lists that want an email get one drafted, sent from the address they were writing to. All you need to do is click. If a list mails several of your addresses, you pick which ones to leave.

Bulk delete, safely

Deletes match each email by its Message-ID, so nothing else is touched. For addresses that only ever send marketing you can delete by sender instead. Preview what an address sends before you decide. Everything goes to Trash, never straight to oblivion.

Cancel per sender, not per domain

Unsubscribe from the one sender you don't want, and keep the rest. Say you're tired of the school's fundraising emails but still want the chess club's updates. Unsub cancels only the sender you choose, and the chess club keeps writing to you.

Two ways to reach your mail

Mail app mode works through Apple Mail: no passwords, works offline, rescans in seconds. Mail servers mode connects to your IMAP accounts directly: much faster deletes and it reaches mail Mail never downloaded, like archived Gmail. Import your accounts from Mail with one click.

It keeps track

Unsubscribe keeps the date you left each list. If a sender writes again afterwards, a red ↩ appears next to its name, so you know whether it ignored you or you signed up again. Links that no longer work get a flag so you can deal with them later.

Preview before you act

The eye shows a sender's latest emails, so you can see what they actually send. In Mail app mode a click opens the email in Mail.

Themes, or none

Ships with the Hereford Mappa Mundi look, plus the Bayeux Tapestry and Fra Angelico themes. Prefer the standard Mac look? Pick Plain. Themes are packages you can open, edit or make yourself, down to the Latin captions and their translations.

Speaks your language

English, Deutsch, Español, Français, Polski, Português and Українська are built in. Any other language is a Markdown table away: export the template, fill in the translations and import it.

Shortcuts and keyboard

⌘R rescans, ⌘1 and ⌘2 switch modes. The Shortcuts app can read your senders as JSON, unsubscribe and delete through the unsubscribe:// URL scheme.

Private by construction

Your mail never leaves your Mac. Mail app mode reads Mail's own files; Mail servers mode talks to your providers directly and asks Apple Keychain to handle passwords. There is no account and no analytics, only a license check.

Choose your century

This page is wearing the theme you pick, the same way the app does. Try them:

The standard Mac look: system font, system colours, no figures. A theme is something you add; Plain is simply its absence.

Hounds, ships, a comet and a church stitched after the Bayeux Tapestry, on linen.

Griffins, a manticore, Babel and Noah's ark drawn after Konrad Miller's 1896 facsimile of the Hereford Mappa Mundi, on parchment. The default theme.

The physician saints Cosmas and Damian, a sickbed, a gift and a company of friars painted after Fra Angelico, on plaster. Idle letters are the ailment; here the inbox is healed.

Themes are .unsubtheme packages: a JSON file and some PNGs. Double-click one to install it; edit it to make your own.

Questions, answered

Why medieval?

Because why not? Modern software is boring, everything looks the same. Let's have some whimsy!

Is it a subscription manager?

No, nothing to do with your Netflix bill. Unsubscribe deals with mailing lists: the newsletters, promotions and digests that you subscribe to without even knowing and then they pile up in your inbox. It finds them, unsubscribes you with a single click and clears out what they already sent. You can choose which newsletters from a single domain you would rather keep or not.

Does it delete my emails for good?

Never. Everything goes to Mail's Trash, where it stays as long as your Trash settings say. If a delete caught something you wanted, drag it back out.

Why does it ask for Full Disk Access?

In Mail app mode, Unsubscribe reads the emails Apple Mail stores in ~/Library/Mail, and macOS only allows that with Full Disk Access. Add Unsubscribe in System Settings › Privacy & Security › Full Disk Access and relaunch. Mail servers mode doesn't need it.

Why isn't Unsubscribe in App Store?

Mail app mode reads the emails Apple Mail keeps on your Mac and asks Mail to move the unwanted ones to the Trash. Apple requires every App Store app to run in a sandbox that forbids both: reading another app's data and driving another app. There is no way to do what Unsubscribe does from inside that sandbox.

Outside the App Store, Unsubscribe is signed with Apple Developer ID, built with the hardened runtime and notarized by Apple, which scans every release for malware before macOS will even open it. That is the same bar every other app on your Mac has to clear.

Which mode should I use?
  • Mail app is the default mode and best for everyday cleanup. No passwords are involved, it works offline, and rescans in seconds. Some providers like Outlook.com and Hotmail work only here. It needs the least setup. The only trade-off is that bulk delete is a bit slower.
  • Mail servers connects to your IMAP accounts directly, deletes much faster and reaches mail that Mail never downloaded, like archived Gmail. Each account needs a password (an app-specific one for Gmail, iCloud and Yahoo). Work or school accounts may block IMAP. Most people, me included, do fine in Mail app mode and never need to switch. Reach for this one when a delete of thousands of emails is crawling, or when Mail only holds part of your mailbox.
Does my mail leave my Mac?

No. Unsubscribe reads Mail's files or talks to your mail servers directly. There is no account, no sync and no analytics. The only network calls of its own are the license check and opening the newsletters' unsubscribe pages in your browser.

A sender keeps emailing after I unsubscribed. Now what?

We can't force anyone to stop. However, Unsubscribe remembers when you left and keeps track of resubscriptions. A red ↩ next to a sender's name means the address has emailed you since. Mark it as junk in Mail, or delete by sender in Unsubscribe to keep the inbox clean.

What about POP3 and other protocols?

Use Mail app mode. It works through Apple Mail, so it covers every account Mail can read: POP3, Exchange, Outlook.com, Hotmail, iCloud and plain IMAP alike. Unsubscribe never talks to those servers itself; it reads what Mail already downloaded and asks Mail to move things to the Trash.

Mail servers mode is IMAP only on purpose. POP3 has no Trash folder, so a delete there would be final rather than recoverable, and Unsubscribe never deletes anything for good. Exchange needs a Microsoft sign-in flow rather than a password. When you import your accounts from Mail into Mail servers mode, POP3 and Exchange accounts are skipped and a note tells you how many; they keep working in Mail app mode.

How much does it cost?

Try it free on your first 7 senders, with no time limit. If you like it, the license is bought once and works on up to 3 Macs. It will never become a subscription.

Can I make my own theme?

Yes. A theme is a .unsubtheme package with assets. Copy one of the built-in ones, change what you like and double-click it to install.

Can I add a language?

Yes. Settings › Language › Export Template saves a Markdown file listing every text in the app. Fill in the Translation column and import it. English, German, Spanish, French, Polish, Brazilian Portuguese and Ukrainian are built in.
